A NEW initiative begins this weekend when Beach Buddies joins with local residents in Douglas on Sunday, July 11th for a community event at Manor Woods, alongside Scoill Vallajeelt in Douglas.
The event has been organised by former area MHK and MLC David Cretney. Beach Buddies is supporting the idea by providing volunteers to team up with local residents from 1pm, ending no later than 3pm.
David said, “Manor Woods is a special place, much valued for its nature and wildlife and enjoyed by residents. We wish it to remain as a natural area.”
The event is the first phase of project to start tidying up and commence unblocking some of the ‘drainage’ after which the landowner has offered to take the rubbish away.
Occasional clean-ups have been conducted around the Island’s schools by Beach Buddies over recent years, and this new initiative at Scoill Vallajeelt is now planned to kick-start a regular series of similar events across the Island.
The school has kindly made its car park available for the event.
