THERE’S a special event for Beach Buddies this weekend as we have been given permission to conduct a clean-up of Mooragh Park lake on Sunday morning, January 30th, meeting at the southern end of the lake at 10.30am. Our thanks to the Venture Centre and Ramsey Commissioners for permission.
We had a brilliant morning when we did this for the first time long before the word “coronavirus” was known, with just under 200 people taking part, clearing away a massive amount of rubbish which had gathered on the bottom of the lake and around the perimeter of the park itself.
The finds included three mobile phones – one of which was still working! And the owner was one of our volunteers – and took it back home with him!
One word of warning however – if you plan to go into the lake itself (which has been drained) it can be a bit muddy, so please don’t wear your Sunday best! However, around the outside of the lake it’s not too bad, and if you just want to clean up in the park itself (or the nearby beach) then it’s just like a normal clean-up session (this would probably suit families best).
Meet at 10.30am near Conor’s Cafe and we will distribute all the equipment. The session finishes no later than 12 noon.
