A SEVEN year old is on a mission to clean up the Isle of Man after receiving the perfect Christmas present. Eleanor Cain, from Crosby, asked for a litterpicker and hi-viz vest as her main gifts from Father Christmas, and just a few days later she took her family for a clean-up on Peel beach, then to South Barrule plantation to tidy up footpaths, and then she joined Beach Buddies for their first event of the year at Ballaugh on Sunday morning.
Eleanor’s mother Keiley said, “She really enjoyed today at Ballaugh. Thanks for making such a fuss of Eleanor; she’s on a high now.
“Since you came to Marown School and took them along the railway lines searching for rubbish, a litterpicker went to the top of her Christmas list, much to the surprise of everyone.
“Luckily, Father Christmas managed to find a child-sized litterpicker, along with a hi-viz vest to keep her safe, much to Eleanor’s delight.
“I’m sure we will be attending as many of the Beach Buddies’ events as we can from now on, bringing down as many friends and family as she can round up!”
Beach Buddies founder Bill Dale added, “I spend a lot of my time speaking to children in schools, and the response has been excellent, and when you see someone like Eleanor and she brings along her family proudly holding her litterpicker then it makes you feel really positive about the future.
“I’m sure this lovely little 7 year old girl and her family will inspire other families to do the same. They had never been to a Beach Buddies event before and they all said afterwards they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and met some like-minded people. That is what this is all about.”
