BEACH Buddies will make its first visit of the year to Ballaugh beach this weekend with a volunteer event on Sunday morning, January 23rd, from 10.30am to 12noon.
Last week we had the pleasure of meeting 11 new volunteers to join in our session which was once again attended by the Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer and Lady Lorimer, with around 200kgs of rubbish collected by the 88 volunteers in total – the biggest number of volunteers for some time.
Beach Buddies provides all the necessary equipment (gloves, bags, litter pickers) and we remove all the items collected, recycling as much as we can afterwards including plastics, glass, tin cans, hard plastics and metals. The remainder goes to the EFW (Energy From Waste plant) to be turned into free electricity.
If you have never been before, then please come along and join in. No need to register, just turn up if you can and join in and you will be guaranteed a warm welcome. We love seeing new volunteers. Families are particularly welcome.
