BEACH Buddies returns to where it all started this weekend when a beach cleaning event is held at Ballaugh – 14 years after the very first beach cleaning event in 2006.
However, volunteers won’t be able to find anywhere near the amount of rubbish discovered in this area when the first ever collection took place and 30,000 pieces of plastic were removed over a 6-week period.
Ballaugh is now one of the cleanest beaches on the Island, thanks to the large numbers of people who collect everything they see when walking the beach each week. However, the river and the tides bring in rubbish every day, so volunteers can still expect to find plenty to keep them occupied on Sunday morning, October 25th, from 10.30am until 12 noon.
Ballaugh is always popular with Beach Buddies and every time we visit this beach we meet brand new volunteers taking part for the first time. It’s also the beach where one young lad found an 11,000 year old bone of an ancient elk, so you never know what you might find at Ballaugh!
Dogs with well behaved owners are very welcome, and we always like to see families. Everyone is welcome. We provide all the equipment – gloves, bags and litterpickers – and we move the rubbish afterwards and recycle as much as we can.
See you all on Sunday!!
