THE first volunteer event of 2022 for Beach Buddies takes place this weekend on Sunday (January 9th) at The Lhen on the northwest coast from 10.30am. It’s a great opportunity to blow off the cobwebs and start the new year in a positive way!
This is a beautiful stretch of the Manx coastline where large numbers of seabirds live and breed, with numbers increasing in recent years (maybe we have helped? If so, that’s brilliant!).
As always, Beach Buddies provides all the necessary equipment (gloves, bags, litter pickers) and we remove all the items collected, recycling as much as we can afterwards including plastics, glass, tin cans, hard plastics and metals. The remainder goes to the EFW (Energy From Waste plant) to be turned into free electricity.
If you have never been before, then please come along and join in. No need to register, just turn up if you can and join in and you will be guaranteed a warm welcome. Please say hello and introduce yourself if you’ve not been before. We love seeing new volunteers. Families are particularly welcome.
Please park with a thought for others. The car park at The Lhen is not massive, so polite and careful parking is required. As it’s the first event of 2022 our past experience shows that we should expect a pretty big turn-out, if the weather is OK.See you on Sunday!
• If the weather is really bad we will postpone for a week. We will announce this on Facebook and other social media. If you don’t hear from us then it all goes ahead!
• Beach Buddies is sponsored by FIM Capital and receives annual funding from DEFA.
