A BIG shout-out to the pupils and teachers at Onchan School who used litterpickers donated by Beach Buddies for a community village clean-up.
The school’s Eco Warrior Club decided to clean up the village’s community park and were shocked by how much rubbish they found.
Now the school plans to send out a different class each week to keep on top of the situation. Teacher Victoria Cubbon said, “We hope by doing this we will see a big improvement in the amount of litter in this area and further help promote our children growing into responsible people.”
Beach Buddies has donated free litterpickers to every school in the Isle of Man during the last 12 months, and plans to donate more on a regular basis to continue this campaign into the long-term future and to encourage all children and teachers to get involved in keeping our beautiful island free from rubbish.
The schools all understand that rubbish dropped anywhere – no matter how far it is from the sea – will eventually end up polluting our oceans and killing animals, mammals, birds and fish. Drop rubbish in the street and it goes down a drain, into the rivers, out to sea and eventually finishes on the beach.
Beach Buddies said, “Onchan School is another shining example of how children in the Isle of Man are not just talking about this issue; they are actually going out there and doing something positive about it.
“We have thousands of children around the Island’s schools doing the same, and this is setting an example for the rest of the world to follow.”
